Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I have become old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” And the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, when I am so old?’ Is anything too difficult for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, at this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” (Genesis 18:12-14)
One of my pastors mentioned Sarah and her laughing in his daily calling post this week. Something inside of me said, 'Sarah had a lack of faith.' Then as I continued to ponder Sarah's situation, her laugh was a lack of faith. She couldn't believe God would allow her to conceive and laughed at the notion since it was so unbelievable to think a woman of her age could give birth. Did her lack of faith stop God's plans? No, it did not.
Not only did God's plan succeed despite Sarah's doubts, I believe once she conceived her faith became unshakable. Sometimes God allows an impossible situation in the eyes of man to come into our lives. We may doubt and may not have faith, but that doesn't matter when it comes to God's plan.
Once His plan unfolds, our faith will also become unshakable. Nothing or no one can stop God just as nothing and no one can persuade God.
Losing faith hurts us and our relationship with Christ, but it doesn't have anything to do with the outcome God has planned for us. Sarah's story is to show us that just because something seems impossible doesn't mean it is. God can do the unthinkable, and her story should help us to overcome doubt. Whatever our age, God still answers prayers, and He always works everything out to the good of His Kingdom. We are children of the King and part of that Kingdom, which means He only wants the best for us so we can be the best for Him.
